Summary:
Works with the Staff Vice President, Investment Accounting, to ensure that the underlying books and records of the company's investment holdings and cash flow accurately reflect the business results.
Helps to ensure that the books and records of the company's pension and post-retirement plans accurately reflect the plan assets and liabilities.
Works with the investments department, other FM Global departments and internal and external auditors as necessary.
Schedule & Location:
This is a full-time exempt position has a schedule of Monday through Friday with flexible start and end times.
This position is office-based in Waltham, MA with the flexibility to work remotely on Tuesdays or Fridays, weekly.
Responsibilities:
Assists with reporting of all investment, cash flow and pension and postretirement financial matters for the company (financial statements, budget to actual reporting, investment analysis, cash flow reporting, regulatory reporting, rating agency reporting, etc.
).
Works with the Staff Vice President, Investment Accounting, to ensure that the reporting meets all required controls and guidelines on a GAAP, statutory and IFRS basis.
Assists with and participates in implementation of accounting system requirements for new GAAP and/or statutory requirements, new investment initiatives, such as derivatives, new asset classes and new entities/affiliates.
Helps develop and maintain procedures and controls over the investment accounting business unit to ensure compliance with all GAAP, statutory and management requirements.
Identifies opportunities for process improvements and suggests and implements related solutions.
Coordinates with the investments department and other departments as necessary on all new initiatives, including new investment classes, derivatives or other changes to the investment portfolios or required investment reporting to facilitate the implementations and determine the appropriate procedures and controls.
Works with other units, including foreign affiliates, to determine required reporting, procedures, and controls necessary to provide any new financial reporting and analysis on investments, cash flow and the pension and postretirement plans.
Works with external and internal auditors to support company accounting treatment and audits.
Qualifications:
Required Education:
Bachelor's degree.
Highly Preferred Education:
Bachelor's degree with a focus in accounting.
Professional certification (CPA, CMA, CIA, CISA, etc.
).
Master's degree.
Required Work
Experience:
7
years' of related experience in investment accounting.
Highly Preferred Work
Experience:
Experience accounting for derivatives.
Required Skills:
Advanced knowledge of accounting principles and practices to support financial soundness (U.
S.
GAAP, IFRS, STAT).
Advanced Microsoft Office experience, especially with Excel.
Advanced knowledge of investments (including derivatives), investment accounting and benefit plan accounting.
Proficiency with financial systems and software applications including investment accounting systems, investment systems, PeopleSoft, Microsoft office and various other reporting systems, portals and web-based applications.
Excellent analytic and problem-solving skills to resolve department specific issues independently.
Excellent oral and written communication skills for both internal and external needs.
The hiring range for this position is $114,300-$164,200 USD annually.
The final salary offer will vary based on individual education, skills, and experience.
